Day 101/365: Epictetus on happiness

Welcome to The Stoic Ledger, a daily money meditation from one of the Stoic sages.
101/365: Epictetus on happiness
“It is quite impossible to unite happiness with a yearning for what we don’t have. Happiness has all that it wants, and resembling the well-fed, there shouldn’t be hunger or thirst. – Epictetus
How often do you catch yourself yearning for what you don’t have?
Future income, the promotions, the custom dream home, the lake house, the retirement date? Has it happened today? This week?
Epictetus is reminding us that each want, each thirst for what we don’t have is a chasm that separates us from fulfillment, from happiness.
Contentment is the bridge.
