Day 118/365: Seneca on the balance sheets

Welcome to The Stoic Ledger, a daily money meditation from one of the Stoic sages.

118/365: Seneca on the balance sheets

“Believe me, it’s better to produce the balance-sheet of your own life than that of the grain market.” – Seneca

How well do you know yourself?

We have the score recorded for our jobs and our investments and our hobbies.

We research upcoming draft picks with more rigor than learning a new skill or auditing existing internal shortfalls. We look to balance sheets before investing in equity or extending credit. We know the external ledgers better than the internal.

Seneca reminds us to take the deep dive on our internal balance sheets. A point-in-time look of what we have and what we owe. This is not solely preparing a financial statement. What skills? What characteristics? What intangibles? What friends, family, community? What impulses, bad habits, self-destructive beliefs?

Where do you stand today?
