Day 95/365: Epictetus on reasoned choice

Welcome to The Stoic Ledger, a daily money meditation from one of the Stoic sages.

95/365: Epictetus on reasoned choice

“Consider who you are. Above all, a human being, carrying no greater power than your own reasoned choice, which oversees all other things, and is free from any other master.” – Epictetus

The job may dictate what you need to do, but you choose the job.

The house may take your time with maintenance and upkeep, but you choose the house.

Each day we exercise some degree of choice in the manners which color our lives. And if not in the circumstances themselves, in our feelings, our impressions, of those circumstances.

Set your mind’s eye to see the choices you have today.
