Day 98/365: Musonius Rufus being known for doing well

Welcome to The Stoic Ledger, a daily money meditation from one of the Stoic sages.

98/365: Musonius Rufus on being known for doing well

“How much better is It to be known for doing well by many than for living extravagantly? How much more worthy than spending on sticks and stones is it to spend on people?” – Musonius Rufus

When our wealth has a purpose, we can live better than we can by buying nicer sticks and stones.

Invest in people, not stuff.

The former is the path that grants the most satisfaction when you get to the end of life, you can look back and be happy with a life well-lived. The person with the stuff looks back on a void, too late to fill.
