Day 48/365: Marcus Aurelius on better ideas

Welcome to The Stoic Ledger, a daily money meditation from one of the Stoic sages.
48/365: Marcus Aurelius on better ideas
“If anyone can refute me—show me I’m making a mistake or looking at things from the wrong perspective—I’ll gladly change. It’s the truth I’m after, and the truth never harmed anyone.” – Marcus Aurelius
The goal is to find truth, not to remain sturdy in wrong opinions and perspectives. Should the truth come from someone showing us better ways, we should rejoice.
But things don’t often shake out this way.
We become entrenched and defensive, doubling down on the wrong idea simply because it’s ours.
How much might this cost us?
Everything.
We would be far richer in wealth and wisdom by acting as magnets for truth, instantly dumping each defeated idea, bested by a better one.
