Day 39/365: Epictetus on habit

Welcome to The Stoic Ledger, a daily money meditation from one of the Stoic sages.

39/365: Epictetus on habit

“Every habit and faculty is preserved and increased by its corresponding actions: the habit of walking by walking, the habit of running by running.” – Epictetus

Our box of habits contains the ingredients that form our health, wealth, wisdom, and happiness.

As walking preserves the habit of walking, saving and investing preserve the habit and faculty of wealth building.

Each dollar saved, each impulse avoided, all drag together in a long chain of evidence.

Strip quality out of the equation for now. The power is in the chain of unbroken dollars, together they are stronger. It’s not so much about concocting the right recipe and investment plan, but preserving the faculty that you’re already engaged in.

It’s about consistency.
