Day 14/365: Seneca on the herd

Welcome to The Stoic Ledger, a daily money meditation from one of the Stoic sages.
14/365: Seneca on the herd
“We should not, like sheep, follow the herd of creatures in front of us, making our way where others go, not where we ought to go.” – Seneca
Are you following the herd? Buying what others think fashionable, fitting in with the societal norms and the “trendy” things?
There’s a price and a risk to this conformity — living and walking someone else’s life, never experiencing what it’s like to take a step in your own shoes, believe in one of your own thoughts.
Be unique, be different with your money.
Not different for the sake of it, but because you’re doing what you want to do, not what others are doing, not what society says you ought to be doing or thinking.
Morgan Housel said, “Many beliefs are held because there is a social and tribal benefit to holding them, not necessarily because they’re true.”
Are your beliefs and actions your own?
