Day 18/365: Epictetus on acta non verba

Welcome to The Stoic Ledger, a daily money meditation from one of the Stoic sages.
18/365: Epictetus on acta non verba
“Don’t explain your philosophy. Embody it.”– Epictetus
Be silent and let your work speak for you.
The silent compounding will eventually show a result.
Epictetus is reminding us to avoid a common trap, set for the talkative. Talk sets out to create an idealistic narrative picture, but the only thing it vividly paints is a wide gap between an expressed way of life and actual living.
There is no need to explain what you do if you are living the principled life.
It’s often those that ardently express their philosophy that are far from the mark of living it.
Remember to be a model of your work, not a loudspeaker.
