Day 2/365: Seneca on enough

Welcome to The Stoic Ledger, a daily money meditation from one of the stoic sages.
2/365: Seneca on enough
“If you don’t regard what you have as enough, you will never be happy even if you rule the entire world.” – Seneca
John D. Rockefeller, Sr., who at the time was one of the richest men alive, was asked how much money it takes to make a man happy. Rockefeller responded, "just a little bit more.
This begs the question, what is enough?
Grapple with this today. Meditate on it.
Is it the house? And then what?
Is it the car? And then what?
Is it the amount? And then what?
Like Seneca pointed out, when our enough is always beyond our current lot, we’ll never attain it. No possession or bank balance will quench that ever-expanding desire.
