Day 27/365: Cleanthes on granting your own wish

Welcome to The Stoic Ledger, a daily money meditation from one of the Stoic sages.
27/365: Cleanthes on granting your own wish
“He has his wish, whose wish can be to have what is enough.” – Cleanthes
As successor to Zeno, Cleanthes helped carry the torch and expand early Stoicism through Ancient Greece.
Here, he reminds us that true wealth lies in contentment, not in endless accumulation and consumption. And that the person who wants enough, wishes for enough, is instantaneously capable of granting their own wish.
As we explored with Seneca yesterday, when we learn to desire only what is sufficient (the essential), we free ourselves from the chains of excess; we gain clarity, purpose, a life rooted in gratitude.
We gain enough.
