Day 30/365: Seneca on expectancy

Welcome to The Stoic Ledger, a daily money meditation from one of the Stoic sages.

30/365: Seneca on expectancy

“The greatest obstacle to living is expectancy, which hangs upon tomorrow and loses today. You are arranging what lies in Fortune’s control and abandoning what lies in yours. – Seneca

Building wealth is a dance with today and tomorrow.

Making investments and plans and goals for the future, yet not sacrificing this moment, right here, right now.

Expectancy is future living at the expense of today. Seneca went as far as saying this is the greatest obstacle to living

And he’s right.

Living t + 1 or t + n is living in expectancy, deferred living. More than that, it’s living beyond the field of your control.

Don’t lose today for tomorrow.
