Day 71/365: Seneca on adversity

Welcome to The Stoic Ledger, a daily money meditation from one of the Stoic sages.
71/365: Seneca on adversity
“In the meantime, cling tooth and nail to the following rule: not to give in to adversity, not to trust prosperity, and always take full note of fortune’s habit of behaving just as she pleases. Whatever you have been expecting for some time comes as less of a shock.” – Seneca
There are three Stoic elements keep front of mind with respect to adversity:
Fortitude against the hard times that will come
Material success is fleeting and unreliable, don’t put your trust in it
The only certainty is change and unpredictable change at that
Keeping these three elements as the bedrock of your philosophy will help you endure, expect, and accept the uncertainty ahead.
